croatia istria

Why is red hair so common in North-Eastern Italy and North-Western Croatia (Istria)? Haplogroup R1b?
I’ve noticed many redheads in this area. Is this a Celtic thing? Many people in this area belong to the R1b haplogroup.
lol Nope. They were definitely locals. Fair skin, blue eyes and blondish-reddish hair. Even freckles (some of them).
I believe that Croats are mainly haplogroup I, (a haplogroup that is also common in Scandinavia and thought to be of Viking origin). The Bosnian Croats have the highest proportion (70%) of haplogroup I in the world even higher than the Scandinavians. Although there are a large percentage that are R1b, this is however not the most common haplogroup in Croatia. Haplogroup I is believed to also have Celtic roots.
